Club’s Inaugural Bike Rodeo @ Enfield Town Hall

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Enfield hosted a free, fun-filled event focused on bicycle safety and riding techniques for children.

Barely a year old, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Enfield continues the Kiwanis mission of serving children in the community by sponsoring a free, hands-on bike safety rodeo. On September 6, the Greater Enfield Club, that serves Enfield, East Windsor, Somers, Suffield, and Ellington, held its first bike event. The club not only had helmet fittings, bike tune-ups and taught bicycle safety, there was also some creative bike decorating, obstacle course “cars” along with bike raffles and free helmets for children that did not have one.

This inaugural Kid’s Bike Rodeo was on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11am to 2pm behind Enfield Town Hall, adjacent to the town green.

Interactive stations included safety training, an obstacle course and helmet fittings. Members of the Enfield police and fire departments were also on hand to assist youngsters, including a radar to check their bike riding speeds (NO SPEEDING TICKETS).

Bike decorating and bike washing stations were also set up, and raffles were conducted for new bicycles, generously donated by the Enfield Rotary Club and Enfield Food Shelf.

Courses were designed for children aged toddler to 13 years, but younger and older children were also welcome.

Incoming Kiwanis Club President Sharren Zetterholm said, “We are excited about bringing Kiwanis back to the Enfield area, and we appreciate how the community has partnered with us. We also look forward to developing some great student leadership programs.”.
